3-4 Year Old & 4-5 Year Old Dance Program

Stacey’s Dance Studio offers a unique program that fosters a love of dance in young children. Preschool classes for 3-4-year-olds & 4-5-year-olds combine ballet, tap, motor skills, and tumbling. Preschoolers learn to follow directions, take turns, and wait in line, with basic class management skills established early. Skills are reinforced weekly, and the program is updated yearly.

The curriculum includes various dance genres and imaginative play, using music and props like the ABC song and Itsy Bitsy Spider to improve coordination. Dance props and role-playing, such as transforming into "Sleeping Beauty," engage students and encourage participation.

• Gross Motor Skills: Marching, skipping, hopping, leaping, and twirling are all groundwork for future dance steps and overall coordination.

• Tumbling: Tumbling is very beneficial for young dancers as they are very flexible; however they lack upper body strength. We work weekly on arm and shoulder strength.  It is amazing to see the progression each week the dancers make as they gain control of their bodies and gain strength.  It is important to teach the correct way to do a forward roll, cartwheel, handstand, etc. 

• Ballet Skills: We teach the correct terminology to our dancers, and amazingly enough they can repeat the words and show you the skills. The skills that will be introduced are all five positions of the feet and arms, plié, relevé, sauté, tendu, glissade, assemblé, échappé, changement, dancer’s walk, triplet, pas de chat,  and arabesque to name a few.  

• Tap: Tap is a wonderful tool to assist a young preschool dancer who may favor either her left or right foot. Putting on a pair of tap shoes and allowing the dancers to march to music, tap, heel, toe, and shuffle is a wonderful addition to the class. Tap is excellent for memory, as well as overall coordination and rhythm.

Preschool Dance Attire: Girls-white ballet shoes, black tap shoes, and any type of dance-wear.

Boys-black ballet shoes or bare feet, black tap shoes, and any type of athletic wear.  Please bring a dance bag to class.  Label all shoes with name.

SDS sells all approved dance shoes in the front office.
